VITEEE Eligibility Criteria 2026: NRI & Foreign Candidates
VIT offers separate admission facilities for Non-Resident Indians (NRI) and foreign candidates wishing to apply for B.Tech programmes. These students are not required to appear for the VITEEE exam and can apply directly through the international admission process.
NRI Candidates
- Students applying under the NRI category must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) in class 12th or equivalent examination.
- Must have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination.
- Candidates who have completed their schooling from a recognized Indian board like CBSE, ICSE, or a state board are eligible.
- NRI applicants will have to submit valid proof of NRI status such as passport or relevant documents.
- Selection will be based on academic performance and not on VITEEE scores.
- The application must be submitted through the International Application Form (https://vit.ac.in/admissions/international/overview).
Foreign candidates
- Those who have studied or are currently studying abroad can apply under the International Admissions section.
- They are not required to appear in VITEEE 2026. Admission will be based on the candidate's academic performance in the qualifying examination for admission.
- Applicants must have at least 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology in class 12th (or equivalent).
- Eligible boards include recognized international qualifications like Cambridge A Level, IB Diploma, Pearson Edexcel, or other boards accepted by VIT.
- Candidates must also have English as one of their subjects in the qualifying examination.
- Application forms for international students are available through VIT's official International Admissions portal.

VITEEE 2026 State Code of Eligibility
While filling the VITEEE 2026 application form, students need to select their state eligibility code carefully. This code is based on the state where the student completed their class 12th (or equivalent) examination.
The points that are very important to remember are discussed in detail below:
- The state eligibility code depends on the state of the school or board from which the candidate passed class 12th.
Example: If you have passed class 12th from a school in Delhi but are residing in Noida, then your eligibility state will be Delhi, not Uttar Pradesh.
- If you are appearing for the improvement exam from any other state, your code will still be taken from the state where you first passed class 12th.
- Students who have completed class 12th or are appearing for the exam through NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) must select where their study centre is located.
- Candidates appearing for multiple board exams in the same academic year will not be eligible for VITEEE 2026.
- Providing incorrect state details may lead to disqualification during counselling, so double check before final submission.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ans: No, you cannot. VIT does not accept partial qualifications. Even if your aggregate percentage is more than 60%, you will have to pass each subject separately—Physics, Chemistry and Maths/Biology. During counselling, VIT checks your subject-wise marks, so do not forget to pass each paper before applying to avoid disqualification.
Ans: The eligibility criteria remain the same for all boards. However, since the marking scheme is different, VIT does not normalize scores across boards. It only checks whether you have secured the required subject-wise and overall percentages as per its guidelines. So, irrespective of your board, make sure that your calculated percentage meets VIT's minimum criteria.
Ans: Yes, students from recognized open school systems like NIOS can apply, provided they have studied at least five subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology and English. However, as per the VITEEE eligibility rules, only vocational or part-time schooling certificates are not acceptable. Make sure that your qualification is equivalent to a regular 10+2 certificate.
Ans: Yes. If you are from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, or any state in the North Eastern region, you will get 5-10% relaxation in the minimum marks requirement. This means you need at least 50% aggregate marks instead of 60%. You will need to submit a valid birth or domicile certificate during counselling to claim this regional benefit.
Ans: No, it is not. Students with PCB background can apply only for biological or related B.Tech courses like Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering or Bioengineering. For core engineering programs like Computer Science, Mechanical, or Electrical, Mathematics is a mandatory subject as per VITEEE Eligibility Criteria 2026.
Ans: If you are an NRI or foreign candidate, you need to apply on the official website of VIT's International Admissions Department. You will need to provide a valid academic equivalency certificate and proof of nationality (passport, OCI, or PIO card). Admissions are processed only through official VIT channels - applications are not accepted through agents or third parties.
