Frequently Asked Questions
Ans: Many students wonder whether it is necessary to appear for both sessions. The best approach depends on your level of preparation. If you feel confident and well-prepared by January, appearing for Session 1 can help you understand the exam trends and identify your weak areas. You can then use the gap before Session 2 to improve your score. Students who register only for the April session should ensure that they solve questions from the previous sessions to understand the difficulty level. Appearing twice offers a strategic advantage, as NTA considers your best score for ranking.
Ans: Balancing board exams and JEE preparation is one of the toughest parts of the process. Students should focus on NCERT-based concepts, as the JEE syllabus largely overlaps with the class 12th syllabus. Setting a realistic daily plan - where morning hours are used for board subjects and evening hours for JEE practice - works best. Solving mock tests on alternate days also helps in maintaining consistency without getting tired. The key is to avoid studying new topics close to the board exam and instead revise and practice regularly.
Ans: When the provisional answer key is released, don't just check the total marks - analyze your performance according to your section. Compare your correct and incorrect attempts in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to identify weak areas before the next session or JEE Advanced. If you find any questionable answers, cross-check it with the standard textbook or NTA's official syllabus before raising objections. This not only helps in improving accuracy but also creates exam insights for future attempts.
Ans: While the cutoff helps you know whether you are eligible for JEE Advanced or not, your All India Rank (AIR) determines your actual chances of getting admission in NITs, IIITs and CFTIs. Even if you cross the cutoff, your rank still determines which colleges and branches you can get. So instead of focusing only on the cutoff marks, students should aim to maximize their percentile in mock tests and improve their accuracy. The higher the percentile, the higher the chances of getting into the college and stream of their choice.
Ans: After the results are out, students often rush to counselling without a clear plan. It is wise to first analyze your percentile and rank range to narrow down the realistic colleges. Search for last year's final ranks of NITs, IIITs and CFTIs to understand where you stand. If you are planning to attempt JEE Advanced, spend focused time revising without bothering with both at the same time. Students aiming for admission in private colleges should also check their direct admission or management quota schedule in advance to avoid last-minute confusion.
