JEE Advanced 2025 introduced a small but impactful change. Despite reducing the total number of questions to 96 from 102, the overall difficulty increased noticeably.

JEE Advanced 2025, conducted by IIT Kanpur on May 18, 2025, brought with it an unexpected twist for students especially in Paper 2. While JEE Advanced exam pattern of Paper 1 followed the familiar structure seen in recent years. Paper 2 introduced subtle yet significant changes that increased the overall level of difficulty.
Traditionally, both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of JEE Advanced exam have followed a consistent format, featuring 4 sections in each subject that includes Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. However, in 2025, Paper 2 introduced a noticeable change by including only 3 sections per subject instead of the usual 4 sections.
The most significant shift in JEE Advanced Paper 2 was the removal of matrix match and paragraph-type questions, which were well known for allowing partial marks and providing room for strategic guessing. These were replaced with a higher number of Numerical Answer Type or integer-based questions, which demand precise answers and offer no partial credit. This change not only raised the difficulty level but also emphasized accuracy and in-depth understanding of concepts.

JEE Advanced 2025: Paper 2 Increase the Difficulty Level
The difficulty level of JEE Advanced 2025 increased mainly due to two key changes in Paper 2 as follows:
- First, the shift to more Numerical Answer Type questions required students to solve problems with high accuracy, leaving no room for guessing or partial marks.
- Second, the removal of matrix match and paragraph-type questions made time management harder, as NAT problems were more time-consuming and calculation-heavy, especially in Mathematics.
Together, these changes made the paper more challenging and demanded better precision and time control from students.
