The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released comprehensive guidelines for the registration of Class 9 and 11 students for the 2025-26 academic session.

Schools affiliated with CBSE are required to complete this process through the Pariksha Sangam portal on the official website. This registration is a crucial first step for students who will eventually take the Class 10 and 12 board examinations.

Essential Requirements for CBSE Board Exam 2026 Eligibility

According to the guidelines, the following are the essential requirements for a student to be eligible to appear in the CBSE board examinations:

  • Two-Year Program: Both Class 10 and Class 12 are two-year programs. To be eligible for the board exams, a student must have studied all subjects continuously for two years.
  • Mandatory Attendance: A minimum of 75% attendance is compulsory for all students.
  • Internal Assessment: In line with the NEP-2020, internal assessment is an essential, two-year-long part of the evaluation. Students who do not attend school regularly cannot be assessed, and in such cases, they will be placed in the 'Essential Repeat'
  • Additional Subjects: Students can opt for a maximum of two additional subjects in Class 10 and one additional subject in Class 12. These subjects must also be studied for two full years.
  • School Authorization: Schools are only permitted to offer subjects for which they have received specific permission from CBSE and have the necessary infrastructure (e.g., labs, teachers).
  • Private Candidates: Regular students who were placed in the "Compartment" or "Essential Repeat" category in previous years are eligible to appear for board examinations as private candidates under those specific categories.
  • Eligibility for Additional Subjects: Students who do not meet the above conditions are not eligible to appear in additional subjects as private candidates.
