Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level aptitude test for admission to courses like M.Tech and PhD at India's top most esteemed colleges like Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology and many more. It is conducted by one of the IITs or Indian Institute for Science, Bangalore (IISC Bangalore), rotationally.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institute of Technologies (Roorkee, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Bombay) on behalf of the National Coordination Team.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national - level entrance exam for the aspiring students who are seeking admission in Master's programmes or Post - graduate courses such as M.E or M.Tech or other analysis courses at top renowned Indian Technical institutes across India like IITs, NITs, IISC, IIITs and others. It is one of the toughest entrance exams in India.

Official website of the GATE 2024 entrance examination, IISC Bangalore has already published the 2024 exam pattern. It includes a total number of questions, marks, duration and many more. Necessary details about the GATE 2024 exam pattern is given below :

Pattern of GATE Exam

Number of Sections - 3 Sections

  • General Aptitude 
  • Engineering Mathematics 
  • Candidate's chosen subject

(In some papers,  Engineering Mathematics is excluded.)

 

Total Number of Questions - 65 Questions.

Total Papers - 30 Paper.

Total Marks - 100 Marks. 

  • 30 one mark questions.
  • 35 two marks questions.

 

Exam Timings - 180 minutes.

Types of Questions - 3 types.

  • Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Multiple Select Questions.
  • Numerical Answer Type.

 

Marking Process of GATE Exam

  • Questions mainly consists one or two marks each.
  • No negative markings for MSQs and NATs.
  • For 1 mark MCQs, 1/3 will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • For 2 marks MCQs, 2/3 will be deducted for each wrong answer.

 

Score Validity - 1 year.

GATE Exam 2024 (Tentative)

Candidates will find all the details regarding the GATE 2024 examination on its official website. It will be conducted in 4 days, 2 slots each day.  The duration of these two slots are 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. respectively. The admit card for GATE 2024 is now available on the official website. Other necessary details regarding the GATE 2024 exam pattern is given below :

Important Notice Regarding GATE Examination

  • For admission to IITs, candidates must secure a score between 600 - 800. 
  • For admission to NITs, candidates must secure a score above 300.
  • GATE 2024 will only be conducted in India.

 (A new paper named, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence has been introduced to the GATE 2024 exam)

 

What is the Application Fee of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) Exam ?

Official authority of the GATE 2024 examination has raised the amount of the registration fee. 

  • Candidates belonging from General and other categories have to pay Rs. 1800.
  •  Women and Reserved category candidates have to pay Rs. 900.
