The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has updated the "age criteria" for the WB Madhyamik exam 2026-27. Now, students over 15 years old are eligible. This revision follows state government age norms set in 1991 and 2005 for Class 9 and younger.

The board exclusively mentioned that "Candidates whose date of birth is after 31st October, 2012 are to be considered eligible to appear at the Madhyamik Pariksha, 2027. The school authorities are requested not to send names of students whose date of birth is beyond 31st October 2012."

Also, schools can now select the first language for their students. This move allows schools more flexibility to suit student needs and is part of the WBBSE's broader curriculum reforms.
