The Assam State School Education Board will implement biannual HSC examinations starting from the 2027 academic session, as confirmed through an official notification. This reform aligns with CBSE's recently adopted two-exam system, where the second examination will be conducted within three months of declaring the first session's results. The strategic move aims to provide students with increased flexibility and multiple opportunities to improve their academic performance while maintaining standardized evaluation processes across state-affiliated institutions.

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council will conduct both repeat examinations for mark improvement and compartmental tests for subject clearance within three months of declaring final results, implementing National Education Policy 2020 guidelines. This strategic reform allows passed students to enhance their scores while giving unsuccessful candidates an expedited opportunity to clear backlog subjects, significantly reducing academic delays. The dual-examination system demonstrates Assam's commitment to flexible, student-centric assessment practices.

Previously, Assam's Class 12 students faced a mandatory year-long wait to attempt repeat or compartment exams, as reported by TOI, requiring candidates to postpone academic progress until the next academic cycle. The reformed policy now removes this delay, permitting immediate reattempts within three months of result declaration, dramatically accelerating students' educational trajectories while aligning with contemporary assessment best practices. This transition reflects AHSEC's responsive approach to minimizing academic disruptions for examinees.

Students must first appear in the regular February-March Assam Class 12 board examinations to qualify for the second attempt under the new biannual system, while ASSEB prepares to extend similar academic flexibility to Class 10 students from 2027, potentially introducing mid-year opportunities for score improvement, creating a comprehensive reform framework across secondary education tiers in the state.

To qualify for second round of Assam HSC examinations, students must secure a minimum of 170 marks in their first attempt while ensuring they haven't failed in more than three subjects, establishing balanced academic thresholds that encourage performance improvement without compromising assessment standards. These criteria, implemented by AHSEC, aim to motivate students while maintaining the integrity of the biannual examination system introduced under NEP 2020 reforms.
