Frequently Asked Questions

Ans: JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff refers to the minimum marks or percentage required in each subject and in aggregate to be included in the rank list. It is a crucial criterion used to determine your eligibility for the counselling and seat allotment process in the IITs. If you score below the cutoff, you won’t be considered for admission, regardless of your overall percentile or performance. The cutoff varies for different categories such as General, OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, SC, ST, and PwD.

Ans: The cutoff is determined by several key factors such as the total number of candidates who appeared for the exam, the complexity of the question paper, the number of available seats in the IITs, and how well candidates performed overall. Every year, these factors change, which is why the cutoff marks fluctuate. The exam authorities aim to maintain fairness while ensuring that only the most qualified candidates proceed to the admission stage.

Ans: To be included in the CRL for JEE Advanced 2026, you need to score at least 10 marks in each subject and an aggregate of 109 marks out of 360. In percentage terms, this translates to 8.68% per subject and 30.34% overall. These benchmarks are set to ensure a base level of competence in all three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Ans: Not exactly. The cutoff ensures your inclusion in the rank list, which is just the first step toward IIT admission. Admission also depends on your rank, seat availability, choice of branch and institute, and performance in JoSAA counselling. So, while clearing the cutoff makes you eligible, it does not guarantee a seat in an IIT.

Ans: Candidates belonging to reserved categories like OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, SC, ST, and PwD are provided with relaxed cutoff marks in comparison to those in the General category. For example, in 2025, the aggregate cutoff for OBC-NCL and GEN-EWS is 98 marks, and for SC/ST/PwD candidates, it is 54 marks. This relaxation is provided to ensure wider access to IIT education for underrepresented groups.

Ans: You must meet both the subject-wise and aggregate cutoff marks to be included in the rank list. If you fall short in either, even by a single mark, you won’t qualify for the rank list. This rule ensures balanced performance across all three subjects and prevents admission based on strength in only one or two areas.
