NTA has made a definitive decision about JEE Main 2026 exam dates. Once assigned, exam dates and shifts will not change, even if they fall on the same day as other state or national exams. For engineering candidates this year, this official explanation is crucial and those who intend to register for multiple board or competitive exams concurrently must carefully prepare.

There is no slot booking facility available for JEE Main 2026 unlike some other entrance tests. The specific exam date and shift (morning or afternoon) for each candidate are assigned randomly by the authority. Consequently, once this random allotment is finalized, candidates are unable to request a change of date or shift.

Reasons NTA Avoids Changing Exam Dates

Check what's the main reasons that NTA is refraining from a date change of JEE Main:

Reason CategoryExplanation and Impact
Massive Scale & Logistics14.5 Lakh students registered for the JEE Main examination this year. Changing shifts for even a small group affects overall seating, security and complex logistical arrangements.
System DisruptionExam dates are announced well in advance. Changing dates due to individual requests disrupts the entire system. The arrangements are coordinated beforehand to build around the original schedule released.
ImbalanceA logistical imbalance will be created if the exam date changes for a few candidates. It'll immediately raise concerns about the fairness and integrity of the examination process.

The JEE Main 2026 is to be a two session examination. The tentative dates released by NTA are Jan 21 to 30 and Apr 2 to 9, 2026 for Session 1 and 2 respectively. To help students prepare and manage their schedules, the NTA will release the JEE Main city intimation slip in the first week of January 2026 confirming the exam date and exam city. The allotted shift timings will only be specified later on the admit card.

Given this non-negotiable policy, all engineering aspirants who are applying for any other major exams alongside JEE Main must now meticulously double-check their entire academic schedule to ensure there are no date clashes. Failing to do so could result in being forced to choose between the JEE Main and the conflicting examination.
