Technical chaos hit thousands of medical aspirants on Sunday after the National Testing Agency (NTA) website crashed shortly after the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination admit cards went live. High user traffic caused server overloads, leaving many students facing blank screens, "service unavailable" alerts, and "under maintenance" messages right when trying to access the portal. The glitch has triggered widespread anxiety among candidates preparing for the high-stakes re-test scheduled for June 21, 2026.

The technical disruption peaked during the newly introduced Bank Account Re-confirmation step. As a security measure to process application fee refunds following the cancellation of the original May 3 test, NTA made it mandatory for students to complete an OTP-based two-factor authentication and verify their banking credentials before downloading their hall tickets. The simultaneous influx of over 22 lakh affected students attempting to clear this verification bottleneck quickly crippled the NTA's servers.
Adding to the technical mess, some candidates reported hitting a "Skip" button on the banking page out of frustration or under the impression that they had logged their details previously. Many are now raising concerns about whether skipping this step will permanently disqualify them from receiving their registration refunds.
In an official statement, the NTA acknowledged the server strain and confirmed that its technical teams are working around the clock to upgrade capacity and stabilize the portal. Despite the widespread outages, the agency highlighted that the rollout hasn't been a complete failure. According to NTA officials, more than 1,00,000 candidates successfully bypassed the heavy traffic to download their NEET 2026 re-exam provisional admit cards during the early hours of the release. The agency has urged struggling students to remain patient and attempt downloads later during off-peak hours as traffic naturally eases.
This portal crash is the latest setback in an academic cycle already marred by controversy. The government has introduced unprecedented safety protocols for the re-exam including utilizing the Indian Air Force (IAF) to securely transport question papers repeated administrative and technical hurdles risk further denting student confidence in the NTA’s execution capabilities.
With only days remaining before the national-level exam, students are holding out hope that the portal will be fully functional before the final exam day countdown begins.
