The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, the organizing institute for JEE Advanced 2026, has strongly refuted recent social media claims regarding a large-scale data leak affecting lakhs of candidates. In an official clarification, the institute labeled these rumors as "misleading and factually incorrect," assuring students that the integrity, transparency, and fairness of the ongoing JoSAA 2026 counseling process remain completely uncompromised.

Alongside this cybersecurity clarification, IIT Roorkee has dropped a major lifesaver for students caught in the ongoing CBSE On-Screen Marking (OSM) row, granting a generous extension to submit Class 12 passing percentages.

Major Relief: IIT Roorkee Relaxes Class 12 Board Percentage Criteria

Usually, to get into an IIT, students need at least 75% marks in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST/PwD categories). However, due to recent CBSE result disputes, many students are still waiting for corrected marksheets.

In an effort to assist them, IIT Roorkee is permitting students with lower board scores to still take part in the JoSAA college selection process. They will still be assigned seats according to their JEE Advanced rankings.

The Simple 3-Step Plan for Affected CBSE 2026 Students

To support students caught in the recent board grading discrepancies, IIT Roorkee has introduced a temporary relaxation policy for the JoSAA 2026 counseling cycle. Candidates who currently fall short of the standard Class 12 percentage criteria do not need to panic or halt their application process. Instead, they can follow a straightforward, three-step pathway to lock in their engineering choices while their board marks are being updated and verified.

  • Fill Your Choices: Lock in your preferred colleges during counseling like normal.
  • Submit Later: Once you get your updated, passing marksheet from your board, email it to [email protected].
  • The Deadline: You must email your revised scorecard on or before July 15, 2026.

Once IIT Roorkee receives and verifies the corrected scorecard by July 15, your admission will be officially locked in for the seat you hold at the end of Round 4.

One Quick Warning for JEE Advanced Students

Right now, this relief rule has been announced directly by IIT Roorkee. Right now, it's unclear if this additional period is only applicable to IIT admissions or to all JoSAA colleges, like NITs and IIITs.

If you are waiting for improvement exams or re-evaluation results, try to get them cleared up as quickly as possible to comfortably beat the July 15 deadline.
