The National Testing Agency is set to conduct JEE Main 2026 exam in two sessions, January and April, for engineering aspirants across the country. The official notification, which will provide complete details about the application process, eligibility, and exam dates, is expected to be released soon on the NTA's official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in

Although official notice is yet to be published, students preparing for JEE Main 2026 must stay informed about the exam pattern changes introduced in 2025, as they are likely to remain in effect. Being aware of these updates will help candidates align their preparation with the latest structure and expectations of the exam.

Major Changes Introduced in JEE Mains Question Paper

In 2025, NTA introduced changes to JEE Main exam format, reducing total number of questions from 90 to 75. The paper is now structured with 25 questions per subject, divided into two sections Section A includes 20 multiple-choice questions, while Section B contains 5 numerical answer type questions, offering a more focused assessment across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

The reduction in the number of questions for JEE Main 2025 has no effect on the marking scheme. Candidates will earn +4 marks for every correct answer and face a deduction of 1 mark for each incorrect response, applicable to both multiple-choice and numerical questions. The exam will be conducted in a computer-based format over a duration of 3 hours, but with fewer questions, students will have limited choices, making precision more crucial than ever.

The overall difficulty level of JEE Main 2026 is expected to be consistent with previous years, although minor shifts in topic-wise question distribution may occur based on the final syllabus. So far, the NTA has not announced any major changes to the exam structure. Therefore, candidates are encouraged to prepare strictly as per the current JEE Main exam pattern to stay aligned with expected question formats and marking criteria.
