Moving away from its postal networks, the central government is turning to the Indian Air Force (IAF) to secure the distribution of national examination materials. The Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Defence cleared the plan, and the IAF has already flown over 200 sorties using transport aircraft and Mi-17 helicopters to secure the distribution of the NEET (UG) 2026 re-test materials to more than 18 regional hubs.

NEET-IFA

In an unprecedented security measure ahead of the upcoming NEET undergraduate re-examination, question papers were recently airlifted by an IAF helicopter in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district. The high-security operation underscores the extraordinary precautions being taken to ensure the safe, timely, and tamper-proof transportation of examination materials.

This dramatic shift follows the total cancellation of the original NEET-UG exam held on May 3, after an organized question paper leak compromised on the integrity of the test nationwide.

Normally, national examination materials are dispatched through standard postal channels and regular couriers. However, this method creates multiple vulnerable handling points were insider theft, interception, or leaks can occur. To eliminate these gaps, top defense and education ministry officials recently held a high-level meeting with military officers to draft a rigid transit framework. Under this strategy, military transport aircraft and helicopters are deployed to airlift question papers directly from high-security printing presses to regional hubs and distribution centers, bypassing standard civilian logistical vulnerabilities entirely.
