BCI has extended AIBE result validity to help candidates facing delays in state bar council enrolment. Usually, provisional enrollment lasts three years, after which a lifetime Certificate of Practice is issued following a five-year verification.

Karnataka High Court has informed that Bar Council of India (BCI) has extended the validity of AIBE result until March 21, 2026. This extension allows you more time to complete your enrolment. The extension decision was made after two law graduates filed a writ petition, raising concerns about delays in their enrolment as practicing advocates.

Justice Suraj Govindaraj has heard the writ petition and said that BCI has “taken into account the problems faced by the students who have passed the AIBE” and hence “found it appropriate to extend the validity of the AIBE results till 21.03.2026”, meaning BCI has considered the student’s issues and decided to extend AIBE result validity.

Karnataka High Court highlighted that BCI’s extension will benefit you if you have passed AIBE but are yet to complete enrolment formalities with state bar councils, including Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC), preventing issues caused by result expiry.

The court stated "BCI, keeping in view the difficulties faced by the students who have qualified the AIBE exam, considered it appropriate to extend the validity of the AIBE results till 21.03.2026, so as to give adequate time to the Karnataka State Bar Council to continue the applications of the concerned students.”

The petitioners requested the High Court to direct the KSBC to process lawyer enrolment applications without additional requirements such as document verification. They also requested a refund of the “document verification fee”, saying that it is not permitted under the Advocates Act.

The court noted that the issue regarding INR 2,500 document verification fee is already pending in the Supreme Court in WP No. 352/2023. Therefore, the court did not give any ruling on this matter.
