While general eligibility criteria and application fees remain unchanged, GATE 2027 features the first thorough revision of the syllabus in five years. The update brings in refined sub-topics, conceptual additions, and a brand-new test paper in Robotics and Automation, requiring a careful strategy realignment from students.
Documents Required for GATE 2027 Registration
Before filling out the online application form, ensure you have the following documents and details ready:
- Passport-Size Photograph: Clear color photo with a plain white or light-colored background, covering 60%–70% of the frame (JPEG format, size between 5 KB and 600 KB).
- Scanned Signature: Drawn using black or dark blue ink on plain white paper (JPEG format, size between 5 KB and 200 KB).
- Valid Government Photo ID: Aadhaar Card (preferred), Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Driving Licence (must be brought in original to the exam center).
- Category Certificate (if applicable): SC/ST or EWS/OBC-NCL certificate issued by a competent authority in PDF format.
- PwD / UDID Certificate (if applicable): For candidates claiming benchmark disability concessions, in PDF format.
- Dyslexic Certificate (if applicable): Required for claiming scribe or extra time assistance, in PDF format.
- Academic Details & Certificates: Qualifying degree certificates, provisional certificates, or bonafide/enrollment certificates signed by the Head of the Institution (for final/pre-final year students).
- Payment Details: Net banking, debit card, credit card, UPI, or wallet credentials for fee submission.
GATE 2027 Online Application Process
Follow the steps for GATE 2027 registration:
- Step 1: Create or access your verified DigiLocker account linked with your Aadhaar number to streamline identity verification before starting the application.
- Step 2: Visit the official GOAPS portal (gate2027.iitm.ac.in) and register using a valid email address and active mobile number.
- Step 3: Log in and provide your personal details, communication address, qualifying degree information, choice of up to two test papers (from allowed combinations), and six preferred examination cities within the same zone.
- Step 4: Upload your scanned photograph, signature, valid photo ID, and category/disability certificates in the prescribed formats. Complete the mandatory live facial recognition/verification step via your device's webcam or smartphone camera.
- Step 5: Pay the applicable application fee securely via online modes (UPI, net banking, credit/debit card).
- Step 6: Carefully double-check all entered details, submit the form, and download/print a copy of the confirmation page for future reference.

New Rules for JEE Main 2026 Exam Centre Selection
Candidates can select up to four exam cities based on preference.
New rule: Cities must be from your Permanent or Present Address state.
NTA will allot the nearest available centres based on Permanent Address.
