According to the revised official GATE 2027 information bulletin 1.2, applicants can now choose up to 6 preferred examination cities while filling out the online form on the GOAPS portal (gate2027.iitm.ac.in). However, all six selected cities must fall within the same GATE zonal boundary, and applicants are encouraged to prioritize their selections carefully during registration.

In addition to expanding domestic options, IIT Madras has officially withdrawn all international examination centers for GATE 2027. The entrance test will now be conducted exclusively at designated centers across India. While foreign nationals and non-resident Indian (NRI) candidates remain fully eligible to appear for the exam, they will no longer have access to overseas exam centers and must select test locations situated within Indian borders.

Online GATE 2027 registration officially opens on August 27, 2026. Overseas candidates, as well as Indian citizens residing abroad, will need to pay the standard full application fee of INR 2,000 per test paper. Furthermore, international applicants must make their own travel and accommodation arrangements to reach their assigned test center within India on the scheduled exam date.
