A law graduate who completed the BCI bridge course has filed a petition challenging the separate qualifying exam for AIBE. The matter is being heard by Justice Sachin Datta at the Delhi High Court. Read more for complete details.

The Bar Council of India has informed Delhi High Court that AIBE XXI is scheduled to be held in June 2026. Additionally, BCI announced that a separate qualifying exam for AIBE will be conducted for Indian nationals who have foreign law degrees. This qualifying exam is scheduled to take place from December 15 to December 20, 2025.
The announcement came in response to a petition filed by a law graduate who completed the BCI-mandated bridge course. In the petition, the graduate requested permission to appear for AIBE at an earlier date without taking the additional qualifying exam. The petitioner argued that this additional exam defeats the purpose of the bridge course. The bridge course is meant to prepare law graduates to practice in India. As per the graduate, completing the bridge course should be sufficient to make them eligible for AIBE without any further testing.
Justice Sachin Datta observed that under the current AIBE schedule, a candidate might have to wait almost a year to take AIBE exam. BCI clarified that candidates who get provisional registration from their State Bar Council have up to two years to clear AIBE. During this period, they are allowed to start practicing law. This means even if there is a delay in taking the exam, candidates can still begin their legal practice while preparing to clear it.
