Rahul Choraria, a CAT 2023 topper with an outstanding 99.85 percentile, shares his journey, preparation strategy, and tips for aspirants aiming for top scores.
Supergrads: Hi Rahul! Congratulations on your outstanding CAT performance! Can you tell us how to prepare for CAT like a topper?
Rahul: Thanks! It feels amazing to be here. Being in my final year at BITS Pilani, pursuing Manufacturing Engineering, balancing academics, campus life, and projects was challenging. I dedicated at least one hour daily exclusively to CAT preparation.
Supergrads: That's impressive! What was your daily routine like?
Rahul: Hostel life at BITS is vibrant but demanding. During weekdays, I managed around 5-6 hours of sleep to balance preparation and other commitments. Weekends allowed some catch-up time, but I had to maximise study time alongside academics and social activities.
Supergrads: How did you approach your mock tests?
Rahul: I started with SuperGrads mocks. The first one was a shocker-I scored just one mark in the DILR section! It was demoralising initially.
Supergrads: That must have been tough. How did you improve?
Rahul: It was a reality check. I realised I wasn't managing time well during exams. I continued practising, and as I took more SuperGrads mocks, my scores improved significantly. I even secured the second rank in Super Cat 6!
Supergrads: Can you share any strategies or mindset tips for CAT preparation?
Rahul: Sure! After analysing mock performances, I created a tailored strategy for all three sections. In VARC, I aimed to solve three questions in the first 25-30 minutes. For DILR, I scanned data sets quickly and started with the set I was most comfortable with.
Supergrads: How many sets were you able to attempt during the actual CAT?
Rahul: I completed two sets and nearly finished the third. It was intense but fulfilling!
Supergrads: Any final tips for CAT aspirants?
Rahul: Maintain a consistent study schedule, practice as many mocks as possible, and don't be disheartened by early setbacks. Analyse mistakes, adapt strategies, and stay focused-you'll see improvement!
Supergrads: Fantastic advice, Rahul! Thank you for sharing your journey.
Rahul: Thank you! It was great to share my experience.
