The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially rescheduled the 2026 Constable (GD) examination for CAPFs, SSF, and Assam Rifles, which was originally slated to begin on February 23. Check out the news for the new dates.

The SSC GD 2026 exam is now set to take place from April 27 through the end of May 2026, and in a move to enhance candidate convenience, a new "preference for weeks" facility has been introduced. Registered candidates must log in to the official portal between 15:00 hours on April 11 and 17:00 hours on April 15, 2026, to rank their preferred testing windows across four available weeks.
The previous slot selection rules have been updated, the Commission will maintain its standard procedure of providing "City Live" status updates 8 to 10 days before the new start date, followed by the release of formal “Admit Card” 2 to 3 days prior to each candidate's specific exam window. The 4.8 million applicants can monitor the official SSC website regularly for further instructions and the final confirmation of their assigned schedules for SSC Constable (GD) 2026.

Key Reasons for the SSC Constable (GD) 2026 Exam Postponement
Here is a breakdown of the specific factors contributing to the SSC GD Constable 2026 exam delay:
- Rescheduling of MTS Exams: The SSC Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) 2026 exams experienced technical issues and cancellations at various centers, particularly in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. These shifts were rescheduled for late February, creating a direct scheduling conflict with the original February 23 start date for the Constable (GD) exam.
- Congested Examination Calendar: The Commission is currently juggling a heavy workload, including the CGL Tier-II and several departmental exams. With approximately 48.8 lakh candidates registered for the GD Constable posts, the delay ensures that enough computer-testing centers are available to accommodate the massive volume of aspirants without overcrowding.
- Systemic Reversion in Slot Allotment: As highlighted in the official notice, the SSC has officially scrapped the self-slot selection facility. Transitioning back to a system in which the Commission automatically allocates dates and shifts necessitates a large reset of their backend database and scheduling algorithms, necessitating a temporary halt.
