Previously, the Science department was under the K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, but in 1972, it was divided into two departments, and one of them became known as the K J Somaiya College of Science. The faculty of Commerce was established in 1986, and since then the institute is known as the K J Somaiya College of Science & Commerce, Mumbai.
