Stage I: Preliminary Shortlisting and Pre-PI Score Calculation
The first stage begins with submitting an online application and CAT 2024 scores. Only candidates who meet the minimum required percentile in each section of CAT (VARC, DILR, QA) and have a positive raw score in all three sections are considered for the initial shortlist.
Once the first shortlist is prepared, IIM Bangalore computes a Pre-PI (Personal Interview) Score for each candidate, based on the following components:
Component | Weightage (out of 100) |
CAT (VARC-19, DILR-21, QA-15) | 55 |
Class 10 Marks | 10 |
Class 12 Marks | 10 |
Bachelor’s Degree Score | 10 |
Work Experience / Professional Course | 10 |
Gender Diversity (female candidates) | 5 |
Note: Gender diversity points are applicable only during Pre-PI evaluation.
Work Experience:
Work Experience | Points |
6 Months | 1.6 |
12 Months | 3.33 |
18 Months | 5 |
24 Months | 6.66 |
30 Months | 8.33 |
36 Months | 10 |
- If experience (x) is between 1–36 months: Score = (10 × x) / 36
- If experience ≥ 36 months: Score = 10
- Internships, unpaid work, and articleships are not considered.
In addition, IIM Bangalore reserves automatic PI shortlisting for the top 10 candidates in each of the following categories:
- CAT scorers
- Adjusted bachelor’s scores (Commerce, Arts, Science)
- CA/ICWA/CS scorers
Stage II: Interview and Final Selection
Candidates shortlisted in Stage I are called for the Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT). Both are conducted on the same day.
- WAT Duration: 30 minutes
- WAT Evaluation: Based on clarity of thought, structure, and language.
The final composite score for admission is computed as follows:
Component | Weightage (out of 100) |
Personal Interview | 40 |
WAT (Written Ability Test) | 10 |
CAT 2024 (VARC-8.75, DILR-10, QA-6.25) | 25 |
Class 10 Marks | 5 |
Class 12 Marks | 5 |
Bachelor’s Degree Score | 5 |
Work Experience / Professional Course | 10 |
Admission offers are made strictly based on the final composite score across all categories, ensuring a balanced assessment of academic performance, communication skills, analytical ability, and professional background.
