Understanding the BE and BTech Difference
Engineering education has been evolving with time with the discovery and invention of new frontiers in Science and Technology. However, B. Tech (Bachelor of Technology) and BE (Bachelor of Engineering) remains the two main degrees in the engineering studies. While both are the streams of engineering studies there are notable differences. As a student it is important for you to understand the difference between BE and BTech before pursuing engineering careers.

Curriculum: The curriculum sets the primary difference between BE and BTech. BE is more theoretical studies of the fundamentals of engineering, while BTech studies emphasises more on the application of technologies.

Specialisations: Both BE and BTech offer number of specialisations for the engineering students. However, specialisations of BTech are focused on more contemporary scientific and technological developments. The specialisations of BE focuses on the classical streams of engineering.

Teaching Methodology: The teaching methodology of BE is more focused to the students interested in pursuing higher studies or research in the field of engineering. While lessons of BTech are more focused on applied technologies preparing students to enter the workforce immediately after graduation.

Course Duration: Both BE and BTech courses are of four years duration. However, while BE stresses more on theoretical aspects, practical skill orientation is stressed more in BTech.

Eligibility and Entrance Exams: The eligibility criteria for both BE and BTech degrees are usually same, except some institutions takes specific entrance exams for BTech testing the technological aptitude.

Career Prospects: While career prospects offered by both BE and BTech degrees are good, graduates find different job roles and industries to excel professionally. BTech graduates get offers for more technology-driven roles, while BE graduates usually excels in roles that demand in-depth theoretical knowledge. However, BE graduates can do specific technology-oriented certification courses that can enhance their prospects in technology-based job markets.

The basic difference between an MBA and PGDM courses is that University Grants Commission (UGC) the MBA is a post-graduate Degree program whereas a PGDM is a post-graduate diploma program. Only government or private universities approved by University Grants Commission (UGC) can offer an MBA degree. On the other hand, a PGDM program is offered by management schools which, instead of UGC, is approved by AICTE under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD).
In professional careers the difference of MBA and PGDM may vary depending on the core domain knowledge of the job roles.

Presenting in the following section a few differences between MBA and PGDM:
Curriculum: MBA programs have rather fixed curriculum with more weightage on theories. The revisions of MBA curriculum does not change frequently as the fundamental theories of business management is supposed to remain constant over a period of time.
On the other hand, PGDM curriculum is more flexible in terms of revisions and changes by the b-school’s to keep it more relevant to the new industry requirements and standards.

Teaching Methodology:An MBA student requires to attend more classroom teachings for the entire 2 years with some case studies that need to be done during each semesters.
A PGDM program is more focused on the working executives or students who already have working experience from the industry. Hence, the PGDM program is built on the practical case studies and interactions with the industry leaders.

Fee Structure: MBA programs are full-time post-graduate program offered by institutes or B-schools with affiliation with Universities. The course fees of MBA in India are more than the PGDM course which any institutes with AICTE affiliation can deliver.

Entrance Exam Criteria: To get admission to MBA course based on your merit at any B-schools requires qualifying rank and score of all India entrance exams like CAT, MAT, XAT, GMAT, & CMAT. The premium B-schools the IIMs accept only CAT scores while the other mid-rank Business schools accepts XAT, MAT and other entrance exams. Some institutions conducts their own entrance exams to select meritorious students for MBA programme.
