AICTE Issued Clarification on Mandatory Teacher Training for Faculty Promotions

AICTE clarifies concerns on mandatory teacher training for faculty promotions
The All-India Council for Technical Education, AICTE has announced a clarification regarding the mandatory teacher training stated in the AICTE regulations published in March 1, 2019. The clarification addresses the issues raised by the technical education directors and faculty members concerning the indications in this criterion on the prospects of their promotions.

AICTE, in a meeting directed to all directors of technical education and principals, stated that they have received various representations about the compulsory training requirement from the aspiring senior faculty members for promotion to higher levels. According to the council, the ones who didn’t fulfill the requirement had delayed their promotions.

Compulsory Teacher Training Criteria for Promotion

To address this issue, the AICTE has strongly suggested that the designated authorities, affiliating universities, and state directorates of technical education must abstain from delaying the promotions of senior members based only on the non-fulfillment of the compulsory training requirements. The promotions may also advance under the condition that the applicants have to go through the 12-month mandatory training once the clarification is issued. However, it’s conditional to the fulfillment of other requirements stated in the promotion details for the progress to a higher scale.

Checking the Relevancy of Courses

However, the directorate of technical education, the affiliating university, or the appointing authority, based on the case, must decide the relevant courses selected by the faculty members, and they should have over 5 years of experience to be a part of the training program.
