Kolkata: Between 2022 and 2024, Delhi University experienced a significant gap between application numbers and available seats. In 2022, DU received 176,221 applications, admitting 65,225 students and leaving 110,996 applicants without placement. In 2023, the number of applications rose to 246,685, according to reports.
Data provided by Union Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, in a written response to the Lok Sabha, revealed that DU received 669,100 applications during this period, while only 204,230 students were admitted.
Specifically:
To address the growing student demand, DU has expanded its infrastructure by establishing new campuses, including the Western Campus at Dwarka and Veer Savarkar College at Najafgarh. However, there are no current proposals for further college expansion within DU. The university administration has not indicated whether additional expansion plans are being considered to reduce the admission gap.
