Kolkata: Assam board paper leak forces cancellation of all Class 11 state board examinations scheduled from March 24-29. This encompassing 36 subjects, according to Education Minister Ranoj Pegu. This decision followed the initial leak of the Higher Secondary first-year Mathematics paper on March 21, which led the Assam State School Education Board to cancel that exam and file a police complaint. Subsequent reports of further leaks necessitated a broader cancellation.

Minister Pegu announced the cancellation via X, and shared the ASSEB order, indicating that new exam dates will be determined in a Monday board meeting. Investigations revealed that 18 schools, including three government institutions, compromised the Mathematics paper's security, resulting in ASSEB suspending the affiliation of 15 private schools and promising action against the government schools involved. Police complaints are being filed, and those schools are barred from admitting Class 11 students for the 2025-26 academic year.

ASSEB's Controller of Examinations, Ranjan Kumar Das, confirmed that sealed question paper packets were opened prematurely by several institutions, leading to the decision to cancel all remaining exams. He also stated that an FIR has been filed with the CID, and additional cases will be filed locally. It was clarified that while 18 centers were implicated, the leaks likely originated from a smaller number and spread through social media. This incident comes after a previous Class 9 English exam cancellation in Barpeta district due to a similar leak.

Student organizations, including NSUI, SFI, SMSS, and AASU, have condemned the Assam government, criticizing its handling of the situation. NSUI highlighted the distress caused to students, while SFI alleged systemic corruption and demanded the resignation of Minister Pegu and the suspension of ASSEB Chairman R.C. Jain. SMSS and AASU called for a thorough investigation and accountability.
