Students who appeared for Assam board 12th exams in March 2025 will be allowed to take the HS Final Examination in 2026.

Kolkata: Following a meeting today, the Assam State School Education Board Div. II decided to cancel the remaining 2025 Higher Secondary 1st year exams due to teacher involvement in Panchayat elections until May 20, 2025. This decision follows an earlier cancellation of exams scheduled from March 24-29 due to a question paper leak after the HS 1st year exams began on March 6, ending March 29.

An ASSEB meeting on March 24 didn't yield a decision, but a subsequent meeting on Friday, April 4, resulted in scrapping the remaining exams. Today's meeting highlighted the difficulty of holding exams before or after the prolonged election period. The board stated that the HS 1st year exam is primarily a school exam, and institutions can collect remaining question papers for student practice excluding those under investigation for prior paper seal breaches.

Mark sheets for conducted exams will be downloadable from the ASSEB website by June 15 this year, and marks for cancelled subjects will be based on internal assessments or average scores.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced on "X" that ASSEB has cancelled the remaining 2025 HS First Year Examinations due to teacher involvement in Panchayat elections. ASSEB stated that the Panchayat election schedule, announced by State Election Commission, necessitates teacher participation in election preparations, training, and voting procedures, making it impractical to conduct the remaining exams before or after the election period.

The Assam State Election Commission revealed that the Panchayat elections will be held in two phases across 27 districts: May 2 for 14 districts, and May 7 for the remaining 13, with vote counting on May 11. Over 1.80 crore voters will participate in 25,007 polling stations. Nomination filing is from April 3 to 11, scrutiny on April 12, and withdrawal on April 17. The elections will be held at the Gaon Panchayat, Aanchik Panchayat, and Zilla Parishad levels

ASSEB notification emphasized the impracticality of scheduling the remaining exams around the election period and outlined procedures for completing the examination process and providing mark sheets.
