Presidency University, Kolkata is recognized by UGC as an educational institute of National Eminence. The college was founded in 1817, and previously known as Hindu College, The institute became associated with Calcutta University in 1857.

After operating as the leading constituent institute under Calcutta University for more than 100 years, the college was established as a university in 2010, July. The institute has Grade “A” by NAAC and recognized by UGC. Presidency University, Kolkata has 17 departments that offers PhD, PG and UG courses in Science, and Arts specializations.

Admission to this college is entrance-based, however, in 2021- 22 the entrance exam for PG and UG courses were conducted by PUMDET, PUBDET and WB JEEB were cancelled.
