Established in 1992, RV College of Architecture was started as the architecture department of RV College of Engineering. In 1995, This department shifted to a new building within the RVCE campus. It obtained autonomy and was renamed to RV College of Architecture in 2009. Later in the same year, The Council of Architecture (COA), India, approved the re - designation of RV College of Architecture.

RV College of Architecture offers both UG and PG courses. Admission to these courses is based on the admission tests, including the KCET, PGCET, GATE and others. RVCA has ranked 12th out of 40 by India Today in 2023, 2nd in Bangalore and 3rd in Karnataka. RVCA has ranked 3rd out of 30 colleges throughout India among the top architecture colleges in India by Outlook India Rankings in 2023.
