Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal was established in 2001, and it’s a State university known as MAKAUT. Previously The university was known as the West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT).

The institute is included in Section 12B and Section 2F and it receives UGC grant. MAKAUT has the position of 101-150 under the NIRF 2023 ranking. Presently MAKAUT has 89 Non - AICTE affiliated and 114 AICTE affiliated colleges. Moreover, The institute offers 93 AICTE Non - Approved and 141 AICTE -approved courses.

MAKAUT provides PG, UG and Ph.D programs. The college offers 6 months of certificate and PG diploma courses in the fields of Management, Pharmacy, Architecture, Science and Engineering.

Admission to this college is based on the entrance exams such as PGET, GAT B, JEMAT and CET. MAKAUT also accepts admissions based on the marks in JELET, JEHOM,JECA, and WBJEE for many courses.
